Colouring Together

Colouring in is something that Tama and I just enjoy doing together. It's also great for his fine motor skills. :-)

Slapping Speech Sounds

Tama has issues with his pronunciation of some letters- it's bad enough that sometimes we can't understand him. So speech is something we work on everyday. In this game he uses the 'slapper hand' which is made of a sticky jelly substance to 'grab' the words and then he needs to say them correctly to move onto the next one.

Reading

'Reading' to himself is not something that Tama chooses to do for play very often so it always makes me pretty happy when he does.

Jelly

Jelly (not in line with our new diet) is something that Tama can make himself (I pour the water from the kettle). He enjoys doing it and knows the whole process. Even better he enjoys eating it.

I printed the photos from this session and he dictated the instructions for Jelly Making into his language book.

Geo Board

This is the Geoboard that Tama chose at the homeschool meet-up this is something he is choosing to play with on a regular basis at the moment. At the moment it's just free form but eventually we'll look at doing some regular shapes.

Bowling with blocks

Tama experimenting with force and motion. In the end he had to get quite close to the blocks as they are quite heavy and his ball was quite light.

Crackers

We've started to modify our diet this year for health reasons, so we're experimenting with some new foods to find replacements for the old 'carbage'. Tama helped me to make these seed crackers. I thought they were ok but no one else seemed to agree. At least we had fin making them.

Homeschool Meet-up

We attended the start of year Homeschool meet-up at a park in the city. We checked out the sales and Tama chose a home-made Geoboard to buy. I got a fractions set and a clock stamp. Then we enjoyed some lunch away from the noise and commotion to give Tama some time to take it all in.

After some careful observation he eventually felt confident enough to join in on the action. He thoroughly enjoyed himself. :-)

Tama's favourite tree at the park.

This week on the homeschool web

A plethora of Dinosaur printables for small people.

Some handwriting printables.

An easy way to track what you are covering if your following a more relaxed programme. I think I may have to make my own- we need a bit more maths and some other stuff.

An easy game for counting practice.

Pindex- a new sort of Pinterest type platform- but education focused and more professional... I can't explain, read this article.

On my 'to buy' list: Art Lab for little kids.

Easter Basket craft.

Dinosaur Palooza!!!

Giant Dinosaur with toilet paper rolls.

AMAZING Dinosaur homeschool unit..... we are not well resourced enough! :-(

Magnets

Tama is enjoying manipulating these magnets to make shapes and structures. I'm hoping we can add to this set at some point- they're very cool.

Letter to Grandad

Tama's Grandad lives in New Zealand. They keep in contact via email, phone and snail mail- which is probably Tama's favourite. His grandad sends him pictures of the construction stuff he has going on at work and Tama finds him cards and postcards that he likes.

Sketching and thinking

We picked up a $2 calendar with images of Western Australia at the newsagents. Tama picked his favourite image and he talked about what he saw and why he'd picked it. Then he collected some leaves to sketch to compliment the report he'd given me.
