Our Pre-Primary Homeschool Curriculum Overview

I did this back in January but am only just getting the time to share....

Tama's Personal Focus is Dinosaurs!

The legally required government Curriculum Areas:

Curriculum Areas
·   Language (reading, writing, viewing)
·   Maths
·   Science
·   Social Studies
·   Arts (Visual, Music, Dance, Drama)
·   PE
·   Health
·   Technology (Not actually in WA- but would be in NZ old habits are hard to break).

    - LOTE (Maori)

Montessori  Curriculum Areas - These speak to me a lot more than those above and are a useful lens for the way I want homeschool to integrate into our life...

With a view to all of the above here's my rough list of things to do- that play to Tama's intests and both of our strengths- and the resources we currently have avaliable.

"I don’t see homeschooling as an action against schools; just another educational choice, like choosing a private school or a Montessori school, or a public school with a particular focus on sports or arts, all these are educational choices and we decide which one we think will best suit our children and our family values."

Dinosaur Models

Woolworths Ancient Animals has definitely been Tama's favourite so far- he worked with Les to build the T-rex model.

We made a book!

Tama and I came up with a list of things that he can do together. Then we went and took the photos together with Kieran as a slightly unwilling participant being the only other person in the house to get kissed and cuddled. I pulled all Tama's ideas and my photos together in photoshop* and in 10 days time for the grand sum of $10 we'll have the complete 6x8 inch photobook awaiting us for pick-up at Big W.  (* You could easily do this project without photoshop- just using the photobook editing tools online).
